Giving is an art. The more we practice it, the more proficient and generous we become. By looking for ways to give to each other, we perfect our opportunities to share and also enhance the goodness that we are providing. Just as in any art form, it takes both patience and practice as we learn the process. We view the works of the Masters, try our hand at creating something genuine and meaningful, and improve our technique over time. Whether it is painting, candle making, woodworking, quilting, or sculpting, it all takes practice. Likewise with Giving.
In order to give thoughtfully and with consideration, we must educate ourselves on the process. Questions such as, Where can I do the most good?, How can I help from a distance?, What is the best cause to support?, Who can I trust to spend my donation wisely?, and When is the best time to donate?, are all worthy questions that should be thought out in advance of giving.
Below, I have listed some quotations about giving that may serve as thought starters. If any of these quotations resonate with you, memorize them, and when the thought of giving occurs recite the quotation and see if it aligns with your desire to give of yourself, your possessions, your finances, your skills, and most importantly yourself. If it does, make the generous gift right then and there, and I promise you that you will glow and be warmed inside and out from your support.
